Lagos state Government Ministry of Youth and Social Development holds the third edition of the Police and Youth Dialogue with the theme “The power of partnership: cultivating trust and understanding between youth and law enforcement agencies” in Lagos on Tuesday the 11th of November 2025.
The Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo- Olu as the special guest of honour was represented by permanent secretary Mrs Toyin Osayintolu, who read his welcome address opening the Police and Youths dialogue for conversations.
The Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Hon. Mobolaji Ogunlende, said the Lagos State Government is bringing governance closer to the people through various initiatives under the THEMES Plus agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration. Speaking with pressmen, he said, “What we are doing this afternoon is bringing governance closer to you in different forms and shapes, starting from Mr. Governor’s THEMES Plus agenda. Through programmes like this, we have brought law enforcement agencies and youth representatives together under one roof for dialogue.”
He added that the engagement, which began in the Ikeja division, would continue across Ikorodu, Lagos Island, Badagry, and Epe, with the grand finale scheduled for November 13, 2025, at Alausa, Ikeja.
Hon. Ogunlende explained that bringing governance closer to the youths is aimed at fostering collaboration and understanding between them and law enforcement agencies. He said it was important for both parties to engage in open dialogue, exchange ideas, and share suggestions in order to build mutual trust. According to him, such engagements show that youths and the police are partners in progress who can only build a greater Lagos collectively.
The Youth Commissioner explained that two wrongs do not make a right and they are always two sides to a story. He noted that the event have eneabled the sharing of handles and numbers where the youths can make complaints. “Police commissioner have given his numbers so the youths can reach out to him directly if no response from the other operative numbers .What we are saying is mutual respect and mutual understanding and collectively we would build a community we would be proud of as this is needed from both parties that is what we are taking from this engagement” he noted.
Stating his commitment to partnering with the Youth in Lagos the Commissioner of Police Moshood Jimoh, mentioned that the Youth are essential parts of the society, not just in demography, but developmental and economical purposes. In his words “when I came in as the commissioner of Police I banned Officers from searching their phones on transit except where there is a need for it. I run a open policy where any youth do not need an appointment to see me to air their grievances”.
