The Lagos State Government has officially debunked circulating rumors that the monthly environmental sanitation exercise will be reintroduced. In a press release issued on Wednesday, the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources clarified that there will be no movement restriction on the last Saturday of July 2024.
The viral rumor, which has been widely shared on social media, falsely claims that the state will reinstate the monthly environmental sanitation, accompanied by movement restrictions starting at the end of July. Tokunbo Wahab, the State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, emphasized that this information is incorrect and the product of mischief makers aiming to mislead the public.
In his statement, Wahab urged residents to dismiss the false information and continue their daily activities without concern for any imposed restrictions. He reassured that no movement restrictions will be enforced on the last Saturday of July, contrary to the claims of the viral misinformation.
Commissioner Wahab explained that during a sanitation sensitization exercise at Campos Playground in Lagos Island, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had announced the commencement of a weekly community-based sensitization and awareness program. This initiative will involve active participation from all residents in maintaining cleanliness within their communities.
“The Governor also stated that State Government officials will lead by example every week by joining residents in voluntary clean-up activities while promoting the importance of a clean environment,” Wahab elaborated. He stressed that at no point did Governor Sanwo-Olu indicate that a monthly sanitation exercise or any movement restriction would begin in July or any other specified time.
The Commissioner encouraged residents to adopt a consistent habit of cleaning their surroundings, rather than waiting for government-mandated sanitation days or movement restrictions. He underscored the importance of personal responsibility in maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
The Lagos State Government remains committed to enhancing environmental sanitation through regular community engagement and sensitization programs, aiming to foster a culture of cleanliness and environmental responsibility among residents.

But this rumors is really not making the media credibility image great, because it was announced on media platforms and now it’s a rumor. Okay Mr Wahab thank you for the clarification.
